Rosewood Bermuda

To celebrate our daughter, Georgia Claire Bowen, her triumphant fight to good health and the one-year anniversary of her heart transplant, we decided to pack our bags and take our first holiday out of the country as a family of six in early October. Our trip also marked the 10-year anniversary of Ryan’s and my marriage, and Rosewood Bermuda proved to be the perfect destination—providing us with the vacation of a lifetime.

Just a quick 97-minute DIRECT flight from Boston, our passports were stamped, and we were unpacking our bathing suits in about the same span of time it takes us to travel from Duxbury to our ski house in Vermont!

Upon arrival, we immediately hopped into our golf cart (the first of many adventures in our transportation mode of choice on the island!) and jetted off to the Beach Club. The grounds and restaurant onsite are impeccably maintained, and we dined on a fresh sushi lunch before racing across the pink sand beach—nestled idyllically below the rocky Bermudan cliffs—to hop right into the 70-degree late October surf.

Our two-bedroom suite, equipped with three balconies overlooking the turquoise water, was decorated true to Bermuda’s authentic décor and the resort’s tagline: “A Sense of Place.” We felt right at home.

If you ask any member of the Bowen family, I think we’d all agree that our golf cart adventures were a true highlight of the trip! We took them to all of our meals, private tennis and golf lessons, and to the Beach Club every day. The kids got such a thrill riding on the back.

Both our golf and tennis lessons were the perfect way for the kids to learn from very talented instructors, while also playing a series of games, that made learning fun. (Not to mention the stunning Atlantic Ocean and resort views that proved to be the perfect backdrop for mom, dad and Georgia to watch and cheer Kendal, Scarlett and Jack on!)

We also participated as an entire family in a cooking class where we learned how to make authentic Italian pizzas in the beautiful Rosewood Bermuda kitchen.

I’m not quite sure we’ve ever had such delicious meals while traveling than we did throughout our entire stay at Rosewood Bermuda! On two separate evenings, we had private dinners—one at a gorgeous seaside table that we will never forget. The 5-course meal consisting of freshly caught seafood, guacamole, ceviche, grilled vegetables and meats, with a delicious homemade dessert, might just be the most memorable dinner we have had as a family to-date.

Our children thanked us countless times because the amenities (read: flat-out F-U-N), service and food were simply outstanding. Every luxurious detail was well thought-out—the Rosewood Bermuda family truly made us feel like royalty during our stay. I’m not sure how we will ever vacation with another hotel group; we are a Rosewood loyalist through and through now!
