Aw, shucks! It's almost Thanksgiving...

We are so grateful to be a part of the incredible Duxbury, Mass., community. Through times of joy and times when our family has needed support and a helping hand, the way our small, coastal town has rallied around us and so many others has been truly remarkable. Simply put, Duxbury embodies the word 'community' and we have loved meeting the many families that make Duxbury what it is!

Enter: Sims and Rob McCormick — oyster farmers and the incredible duo behind Real Oyster Cult. Beyond being super cool and the parents to some amazing kiddos, they have become great friends of ours and it's been incredible seeing the Real Oyster Cult's growth from small town business to a nationwide success.

As many of you could tell (and sent DM's about!) from our Fall/Holiday '22 photo shoot, we love oysters. (We also love crab claws, wasabi caviar, smoked salmon, too. Who doesn't?
We absolutely loved having Real Oyster Cult as a part of our shoot. Not only was the food-filled tablescape the perfect backdrop for our Thanksgiving-themed shoot; but I think our models would agree, it was probably our most delicious shoot to-date! (Major kudos to all of them escaping without a stain, too!)

Thanksgiving Q&A: Sims McCormick, Real Oyster Cult

What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year?
We are hosting! Very exciting to have some faraway cousins with us this year.

What are some of the more 'traditional’ items on your Thanksgiving menu?
Of course, the bird. Just a simple olive oil/cracked black pepper/salt brine. Stuffing with curry! A cranberry mold (shaped like ears of corn), mashed potatoes and copious homemade gravy, and green beans with slivered almonds.

Of course, as co-founder of Real Oyster Cult, you're going to have some oysters and seafood on the Thanksgiving menu! What are 2-3 dishes or apps that add something unique to your Thanksgiving menu?
Julia Child's Creamed Onions (Quite a throw-back! But my family has served these every Thanksgiving I can remember.), my Dad's homemade cranberry and orange relish, and yes, we start with lots of fresh oysters, caviar, and champagne.
As we can see above, wine might be flowing, too! What are some pairing recommendations for the above dishes/ apps?
Our absolute favorite champagne is La Caravelle Blanc de Blancs. It's light and dry (without being bitter), and pairs perfectly with seafood and turkey. For a red: we love all Hall reds. And Joel Gott Pinot Noir is a perfect pinot  always a crowd-pleaser!

What are some of your family’s fun Thanksgiving traditions you’re most looking forward to this holiday?
Since our oldest kids were small, we've been part of a Thanksgiving Swim (yes, in the ocean!) Wetsuits are totally acceptable, but some bare the flesh! Then it's all about the cooking and eating, and then a bracing walk to refresh!
